Many pets are lucky to have their veterinarian near them. It may be far away on a mountain or in the country, but the office of a veterinarian is usually accessible and can take your pet in the same way as if it were their own. The office of a veterinarian can make the vet’s office your home for your pet. If you don’t live very far away from the animal clinic, you can take your pet with you to the veterinary clinic, and the vet can even do minor procedures and vaccinations right there in his office. Some smaller animal clinics don’t have any Veterinarians on staff, but instead have a receptionist to take your pet’s name and call you when she has an appointment for your pet. You can even ask the receptionist to call your veterinarian whenever she has an upcoming appointment so that you can be sure the clinic will be open when you need it.
Some local veterinarians offer a mobile pet sitting service. Their mobile veterinarian can take your pet to your home, and have the pet examined and treated while you are at work or on vacation. This service is especially convenient for those who don’t always have someone available to give their pets first aid. Sometimes, traveling with your pet could mean a trip to a different town or even a separate continent. It would be embarrassing to go abroad or to another city just to have your pet checked up by someone unfamiliar with your pet’s medical history or its environment. The vet can do this treatment either inside the office or in your home depending on the situation.
Another option for pet owners is a vet that offers online ordering of vaccines and other services. This option allows you to have your pet’s shots printed out at home and send them to the local vet. Many veterinarians offer this service, and it saves money since you don’t have to pay to have these items shipped. Many people prefer this service because they don’t have to drive to the veterinarian, they don’t have to leave work early and come back in to see their pet, and they don’t have to waste time finding a place that has what they need.
If none of these options work out for you or your pet, you can always turn to your local animal shelter or rescue group. Often times, these groups run programs where they mail out coupons for local vets. The coupons can help defray some of the cost of having your pet seen by a local veterinarian. In addition, these local organizations may also be able to recommend local veterinarians in the area that are on the same page as you in terms of animal welfare and the care of pets in general.
The best way to find a veterinarian near you is to check out the references of local veterinarians in your area. You can do this either through the yellow pages or online reviews. If you’re reading online reviews instead of the actual book, make sure the reviews come from actual, real people. Real people aren’t looking to criticize a veterinarian based solely on how much they charge or how long they’ve been doing business with pets.
If none of the options above prove to be to your liking, or if your pet’s health is truly at risk, your final option may be to have your pet seen by a veterinary in another town entirely. Many cities have a network of local veterinarians who accept pets coming from other towns. In most cases, this fee will be considerably less than what it would cost to travel a great distance to come to your local vet’s office. Of course, you’ll still have to make arrangements for transportation and lodging in the new town. But if you’re absolutely unable to see your pet in person, at least you know that your best options are available to you.
